Lomond United 3 - Dundee United All-Stars 3

From Alexander Simpson, Monday, 22nd March, 2010

On Sunday 28 Feb Lomond United travelled to Links Park, Montrose for a charity football match against Dundee United All Stars.

The match was arranged to raise funds for a skin cancer charity, set up by Dave Bowman, manager of the All-Stars, in memory of 2 young Dundee United fans who died from skin cancer. And a spirited and fun game it was too...

The All-Stars arrived with Dave Bowman, Ray Mckinnon, Gary Bollan, Brian Welsh, Scott Paterson, Stuart Garden, Mark Perry as well as Dundee Management team Jocky Scott and Ray Faringham!

After the pre-match photos (see below), Lomond United kicked off.

Lomond United vs Dundee United All Stars

The game started with both teams happy to pass the ball about, and after only 10 minutes, Lang made a great save from Ray Mckinnnon.

20 minutes in Lomond United went in front thanks to Sean Simpson who waltzed around garden and with the keeper grounded, rolled the ball into the empty net. In first half injury time against the run of play, the All-Stars levelled the match when Mckinnon scored.

In the second half Lomond United came storming out and after 5 changes (!) went 3-1 in front. Jamie Anderson made it 2-1 with a well taken finish then Alistair Mcbain made it 3-1 after a goal mouth scramble.

The All-Stars then brought on a few subs who were from the Tayside Junior ranks and they started to create some chances.

On 80 minutes they pulled a goal back, the ref having allowed the striker to continue his run even though he was clearly yards off side. The lineman flag stayed down and everyone stopped, but the All-Stars scored to set up a interesting last 10 mins.

The unbeaten All-Stars fought right to the end and with the very last kick of the game they scored again from a off-side position - that was allowed!

The game was played in a great spirit, and alot of fun for both sides. Everyone enjoyed a buffet upstairs following the match. Most importantly the match raised £350.00 for skin cancer.

Thanks to everyone who participated, donated and came to watch.
