03.06.2009 LUAFC V Old Boys. Match report by A Simpson
Lomond United 8 - Old Boys 4
Lomond United's season drew to a close on Friday 29th May at Links Park, Montrose, with the annual match against the Lomond United Old Boys.
The Lomond legends had a strong squad this year and Alistair McBain!
After a short delay the game kicked off at 8.15pm in bright sunshine. The current Lomond side started well and after 5 mins went in front when Gordon Miller got the final touch after a Scott Pattie free kick into the box. Only moments later it was 2-0 when Craig Sutherland finished well inside the box after good play from Zach Depoino.
Inside 10 mins it was 3-0 when a 20 yard volley from Craig Sutherland flew past Derek Bushnell high into the net.
The old boys, with manager Tom Smith pulling his hair out as what to do next, lost Paul Crawford who was replaced by Ady '85' Lawrie, Danny Caldwell went close but not close enough!
A long ball caught out the old boys defence and Gordon Miller went on a solo run to make it 4-0. Soon after this Lawrie did well and cut back for Danny Caldwell to score. 4-1 and just as the old boys started to find form and roll back the years, up stepped Craig Sutherland again finishing well and before half time Steven Melville scored to make it 6-1. A good entertaining first half with some well taken goals and some excellent top class defending by Peter Gulline!
Moments after the second half kick off Chris Melville again shot down the field and found the net firing a powerful shot past the new keeper Robbie Blyth, great strike !
Tom Smith took himself off the field and with his replacement the Old Boys changed gear with Dabnny Caldwell scoring twice to haul them back into the match, both goals came after some dreadful errors in the Lomond defence which Danny sniffed out well. Ady Lawrie then created plenty chances with runs down the right but no one got on the end of his final ball into the box.
Despite this Ady brought his team mates back into this match with a great left foot strike past alert Muirhead! 7-4 game on. Later Robbie saved well from a Webster back pass! With time running out Zak Deponio scored a cracker, curling the ball around robbie, think he used a JCB to get the ball round him.
An excellent night and special thanks to the Old Boys for making the effort to pull on the boots again and put up a good performance. A good game, enjoyed by all.
S. Pattie went up to collect the annual cup from old boy Stuart Reid. Both teams retired upstairs for a well earn beer or two.

10 May 2009 : End of Season
Lomond United's disappointing season on the park ended with a below par performance in their final league match against Rosyth Wanderers.
They travelled there with a squad missing several players, but they never looked like taking anything from this one.
With the 2008/09 season now over Lomond United can take stock and look forwards towards next season.
Before that they have their big charity match on Sunday May 17th against Dukla Pumpherston in St Andrews and the match against the old boys on May 29th at Montrose.
And lets not forget that plans are well under way for the Poland squad who depart on June 24th for Bydgoszcz.
19 Apr 09 : Results
Lomond United's poor run of results continued with a disappointing performance
in their 2nd division cup semi-final tie against Methil Rovers, 3 2, in Leven. This was against run of
play with a good overall performance from the team and an early goal backed up with a second.
With just 6 league games left to wrap up the season, performances and results will need to improve soonest. Several fringe men will all play a part from now on in.

06 Apr 2009 : Bad News, Signings, Good News
After weeks with little to report this week saw three items of interest come through on the Teleprinter.
First the bad News. Lomond United's keeper, Melville Low is out of action for the rest of the season with a broken ankle. He broke the ankle playing against against Carnegie Thistle on the 28th of March. Everyone wishes him a speedy recovery.
Three new signings this week on dead line day. Frances Stewart from Falkland, Duncan Pattie from Freuchie and Jamie Lafferty from Leven. All three have been training with the team during past weeks and are now part of the squad. Welcome to all.
And finally some good news. After 5 months out injured it was welcome back Drew MacLeod. Last Saturday Drew was back in action for Lomond United in the game against Lomond Victoria and came through the full 90 mins without any problems.
22 Feb 2009 : New signing
Lomond United added to the team on Friday with the signing of 16 year old Zach Deponio.
Zach got his first taste of playing for the team on Saturday when he replaced Neil Cunningham
after 75 mins in the league game against Glenrothes, final score two one for us.
Nice to win and get back into routine after two weekends of snow.
26 Jan 2009 : New signings
This week Lomond United have made three new signings.
Melville Low who comes from Falkland and has experience in the Fife AFA premier League where he played for Newburgh Juveniles.
Darren Mitchell has spent the last few seasons in the Fife Sunday league and is based in Kirkcaldy.
And the third new signing is Freuchie lad Craig Sutherland who's previous clubs include Freuchie and Auchtermuchty.
The team extends a warm welcome to all three and hopefully you will all settle in quickly and help stop the run of four straight defeats.
Also on a hopeful note, this past week has also shown up some interest from a few local youths who came along to training.
